Opportunities to contribute towards Global Reporting Initiative's governance

A global search is underway to strengthen GRI’s representation of different organizations and interests, across sectors and geographic boundaries, through an open call for new members to join its governance bodies.

GRI is the world’s leading sustainability reporting framework – and the only with multi-stakeholder working at the core of its governance and standard setting. Four of GRI’s decision making and advisory bodies are seeking applications from individuals of high integrity with relevant experience.

Until 10 May, nominations for new members are open for:

  • Board of Directors (five vacancies): the final decision-making authority for governance and strategy
  • Stakeholder Council (14 vacancies):  the advisory forum that supports the Board on strategic issues and business planning

Eric Hespenheide, Chairman of the Board, said:

“The strength and legitimacy of GRI stems from our independent and multi-stakeholder foundations. This is what sets us apart and enables us to deliver world-leading sustainability standards, which help thousands of organizations to disclose their impacts and demonstrate their accountability to people and the planet.

We absolutely value diversity of experience, backgrounds and roles being reflected through our governance. Therefore, I would encourage people who are passionate about sustainability and corporate transparency to consider applying – and help us deliver on our mission to ensure a more sustainable world.”

View the above links for the remit, expectations, responsibilities and time commitment for each position, as well as details of the nomination process and how to apply.  All appointments are on a voluntary basis for a three-year term, starting from 1 January 2021.

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is the independent international organization that helps businesses, governments other organizations understand and communicate their impacts.

GRI seeks to ensure all of its governance bodies include representation from these groups: business enterprise, labor organizations, mediating institutions, investment organizations, and civil society.

The Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) vision is that reporting on economic, environmental, and social performance by all organizations becomes as routine and comparable as financial reporting. GRI accomplishes this vision by developing, continually improving, and building capacity around the use of its Sustainability Reporting Framework.

An international network of thousands from business, civil society, labor, and professional institutions create the content of the Reporting Framework in a consensus-seeking process.
