The United States Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) announced that Deloitte and College Summit are the winners of the 2010 Partnership Award, one of four categories in the prestigious annual Corporate Citizenship Awards program. Deloitte and College Summit were recognized for their collaboration to create a "college-going culture" in U.S. high schools and make college-going the norm in America. Deloitte and College Summit were honored on November 30 at BCLC's 11th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

"One of the biggest challenges of our time is to make sure all youth have equal opportunities to succeed," said Chamber BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. "This relationship between Deloitte and College Summit shows just how much difference is made when businesses and civil society organizations team together."

The Partnership Award, among the nation's highest honors for businesses engaging in corporate responsibility, recognizes companies and charitable organizations for working together to address important social issues. While the BCLC selected the award finalists, Deloitte and College Summit were determined the winners by an online public vote.

"Three years ago Deloitte and College Summit embarked on a deeply integrated and innovative relationship," said J.B. Schramm, founder and chief executive officer of College Summit. "Deloitte helped us develop a data reporting system that not only gives educators and principals the information needed to help students stay on the path to higher education, but enables us to dramatically scale up our program to impact the lives of thousands of more students each year. Deloitte's support is a prime example of how the business community can share their core strengths to help nonprofits meet their mission. We thank the Chamber for recognizing what Deloitte and College Summit are accomplishing."

Barry Salzberg, chief executive officer of Deloitte LLP, concurred. "It's an honor that our work with College Summit is recognized by the Chamber," said Salzberg. "Deloitte is passionate about making college attendance the norm in America. Our deep relationship with College Summit is marked by substantial pro bono work, skilled volunteerism, national and local leadership and cash giving. We are proud to be associated with this phenomenal organization and to help scale its success and expand its reach. The impact on students and schools is powerful and real."

As part of its effort to raise awareness about how skilled volunteerism can increase college access for low income students, Deloitte recently released a short documentary film called Empower. This short film offers a compelling story of volunteers affecting social change through the contribution of business skills. To view the film, visit www.deloitte.com/us/empower.

"Spending time with Deloitte executives gave me a deeper appreciation for their innovative collaboration with College Summit," said Don Cheadle, the award-winning actor and College Summit founding spokesperson, who recently attended a meeting of Deloitte's partners, principals and directors. "It is gratifying to see them win the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's prestigious Partnership Award, and I hope it serves as a model for other corporate-nonprofit relationships."
