WILTON, CT - April 26, 2007 "“ Innovations in university-level tax curricula will be addressed this week as more than 30 tax professors and faculty from leading U.S. universities and colleges convene at the 12th annual Tax Faculty Symposium, hosted by the Deloitte Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. In addition to tax issues and legislative trends, the meeting focused on the recently launched Dbriefs U, an online web-based curriculum that launched successfully this term to more than 130 colleges and 1,600 student subscribers with a participation rate averaging 250 students per webcast.

"As we work together to prepare the next generation of professional services leaders in tax, it is critical that business and academia work together to provide timely curriculum support that aligns with a professor's classroom work and which reflects the realities of today's business world," said Shaun Budnik, president of the Deloitte Foundation. "Teaming with Deloitte Tax LLP, tax professors and the education community, the launch of the web-based Dbriefs University has taken tax education to the next level by creating a tool that professors have embraced and integrated into their classroom experiences using the latest in technology."

Dbriefs U is a webcast series for students that provides timely supplementary education on relevant tax subjects. Topics for both undergraduate and graduate levels are offered. Designed to complement professors’ tax curriculum with a variety of technical topics and career content, webcasts are not intended to be viewed during class time. Dbriefs U launched this semester with 10 webcasts which maybe viewed live or through archives.

The two-day Tax Symposium, held in Herndon, Virginia this week, also features senior tax specialists from Deloitte Tax LLP leading discussions on developments in domestic and international tax laws and practices, and updates on a variety of technical issues. Specific topics addressed included updates on tax legislation and regulation, mergers and acquisitions and estate planning. Faculty participants also learned about Deloitte Tax's strategy, services and professional development curriculum.

This is the twelfth year that the Deloitte Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to support the Tax Faculty Symposium, which fosters ongoing dialogue and interaction between leaders within Deloitte & Touche USA’s world-class businesses, including Deloitte Tax LLP, and educators at universities, who play a central role in preparing the next generation of professional services leaders.

"The Tax Faculty Symposium provides tax professors an opportunity review the latest trends within the tax profession and to network with practitioners and each other. It is another example of the Deloitte Foundation’s continued commitment to education," Budnik said.
