PCI-Media Impact Launches 2008 Program Schedule

July 29, 2008 - PCI-Media Impact, a not-for-profit producer of social change TV and radio programs around the world, announced the 2008 broadcast schedule for its My Community radio programs. My Community broadcasts promote social and behavioral change in health, human rights and the environment in communities throughout Latin America using local radio broadcasts. Eleven radio series began broadcasting in June to seven Latin American countries with a signal strengthen estimated to reach more than 4 million people.

Programs in Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Honduras will cover critical health issues, such as sexually transmitted disease, family planning, reproductive health and women’s health. One such program developed with Centro de Educacion y Comunicacion para Comunidades y Pueblos Indigenas and Centro de Informacion y desarrollo de la Mujer, two community organizations based in Bolivia, is the radio program Mujeres Vencedoras / Jovenes en Onda (Winning Women / Cool Youth). This program combines a talk show, call-in format with a scripted serial drama and runs from July 2nd until the middle of October. The program focuses on young women and provides an informed discussion of sexual and reproductive health issues. The title of the serial drama is Con Nombre de Mujer, Tenemos Derecho a Decidir (With a Woman's Name, We Have the Right to Decide).

Programs in Colombia, Ecuador, and Nicaragua have a focus on environmental issues, including sustainable production and use of natural resources, solid waste management and safe water use. The new Ecuadorian radio program Gotas del Futuro (Drops from the Future) produced with EcoCiencia will broadcast into the El Chaco y Quijos state reading local communities along the Quikos river. The serial drama La Vida en una Gota (Life in a Drop) incorporated into the call-in program will discuss water use and sustainable uses of the river. The program is running from May 31 - September 30.

And in a new area for PCI-Media Impact, programs in Nicaragua and Ecuador will focus on rural development including marketing of fair trade products and sustainable development. In Nicaragua, PCI-Media Impact is working in the Madriz state with Radio Ecologica to broadcast a program on sustainable production and use of natural resources with a focus on reducing poverty with a program entitled Asi es mi Gente (That's My People). The serial drama entitled Cultivando Amor (Harvesting Love). The program is running from May 27 to November 4.

The My Community initiative stems from partner organization support throughout Central and South America.
