Landsec Publishes 2017 Sustainability Report

Published 06-13-17

Issued by Landsec

Summary

Landsec’s purpose is to provide the right space for its customers and communities – helping businesses to succeed, the economy to grow and people to thrive.

Report Highlights

“Experience tells us that thinking well ahead enables us to make much smarter decisions today. Get that right and we strengthen our reputation and deepen our relationships with the people who matter most to us: our customers, communities, partners and employees. In our Sustainability Report you’ll see how we’ve worked to lead our industry.”  Robert Noel, Chief Executive, Landsec

Landsec’s purpose is to provide the right space for its customers and communities – helping businesses to succeed, the economy to grow and people to thrive. To ensure the company can do this for years to come, its sustainability work focuses on three key areas:

  • Creating jobs and opportunities
  • Efficient use of natural resources
  • Sustainable design and innovation

Landsec acts early to address its biggest challenges and opportunities. The company works hard to embed sustainability in everything it does and keeps looking for new ways to make a bigger positive impact – using its experience to create great experiences and benefits for others. The report includes commentary on why Landsec believes sustainability adds value to the business. It also discusses the ambitious commitments Landsec has set itself and talks about the actions it has taken during the year. The report has been externally assured by EY.

2017 highlights include:

  • Publishing its Responsible Property Investment Policy which sets out the company’s standards for future acquisitions;
  • Continuing to procure 100% renewable electricity and 15% of gas now procured from green sources;
  • Reducing portfolio carbon intensity by 18.5% since 2013/14, in line with its science-based target;
  • Gaining accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation; and
  • Launching an innovative scaffolding academy at HMP Brixton as part of its community employment programme.
