Issued by Hess Corporation

Summary

The report details the company's programs and performance in the areas of governance, social responsibility, safety and health, our people, climate change and energy, and environment.

Report Highlights

In 2014 Hess completed its transformation into an exploration and production (E&P) company. While the transformation has resulted in significant changes across our company, Hess remains steadfastly committed to being a trusted energy partner that helps meet the world’s growing energy needs in a safe, environmentally responsible, socially sensitive and profitable way. Hess has released its 2014 Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR) which describes these efforts. The report can be viewed at www.hess.com/sustainability/sustainability-reports.

This year’s report details Hess’ programs and performance in the areas of governance, social responsibility, safety and health, our people, climate change and energy, and environment.

Highlights include:

- Completing the first full year of governance by the Environmental, Health and Safety Subcommittee of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, which was formed in 2013

- Refreshing our climate change, environment, health, safety and social responsibility strategies to align with our transformation to an exploration and production company

- Developing a standard enterprise stakeholder engagement process

- Investing USD $42 million in social responsibility projects in 12 countries, of which 80 percent was for education programs in the United States and West Africa

- Continuing to make significant progress in our safety performance by achieving a 23% improvement in the workforce  (employee + contractor) Total Recordable Incident Rate

- Reducing net equity greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent, or over 4 million tonnes of absolute emissions, from our 2008 baseline, through a combination of improved operating emissions, asset sales and refinery closures.

- In-depth reporting on our shale energy activities, carbon asset risk and methane emissions

The 2014 CSR was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3.1/Oil & Gas Sector Supplement guidelines to a self-declared A+ application level that was externally assured by ERM CVS. The content of the report was also informed by the reporting guidelines and indicators in the Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Sustainability Reporting (December 2010) developed by IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues, and the American Petroleum Institute.
