Amgen has released its fifth environmental sustainability report, which illustrates how sustainable practices support the company’s mission to develop innovative medicines.

Amgen is at a very exciting time in its history as it prepares to launch new medicines for patients suffering from serious illness and expands the reach of the company’s existing medicines globally. The company is innovating new ways to manufacture medicines, and is introducing new technologies to deliver these medicines to patients. This is important work for Amgen, the company’s shareholders, and patients served by Amgen medicines.  Amgen is committed to engaging in these activities while remaining committed to sustainability.

2014 Report highlights include:

• Progress on Amgen’s 2020 Environmental Sustainability Plan and Targets. These efforts reduce impact on the environment, improve efficiency, and reduce costs for the business
• Amgen’s Next-Generation Biomanufacturing facility in Singapore, which will deploy new processes and technologies that conserve substantial amounts of water, curb carbon emissions, reduce the amount of solid waste generated and operate with a dramatically smaller footprint than conventional facilities
• Amgen’s status as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for World and North America for 2014
• The designation of Amgen’s drug-product development facility at the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum level by the U.S. Green Building Council
• Environmental sustainability performance data, independently verified by Bureau Veritas
