Amgen Publishes 2011 Environmental Sustainability Report

Amgen has released its second annual environmental sustainability report highlighting Amgen’s environmental sustainability plan and 2011 results. Amgen’s environmental sustainability plan is reliant on staff ingenuity and drive, combined with a strong culture of continuous improvement. The report illustrates how environmental efforts at Amgen improve business efficiency, benefit communities, and support the company’s mission to develop innovative medicines.

Report highlights:

• Amgen has exceeded four of six 2012 environmental targets.
• The company has realized an annualized savings of more than $11 million from energy projects and initiatives.
• With programs such as Green Biology and Green Chemistry, Amgen is integrating environmental sustainability practices across all the many complex activities it undertakes to serve patients.
• Amgen’s 2011 report has been confirmed at a “C+” application level by the Global Reporting Initiative. The environmental sustainability data set in the report was verified by Bureau Veritas, an important step in Amgen’s overall environmental sustainability plan.
