Hydro-Québec has published its Sustainability Report 2010. It is available on the company’s Web site at www.hydroquebec.com/publications/en/enviro_performance/index.html.

Key 2010 achievements highlighted in the report:

98% of the electricity generated by Hydro-Québec was from renewable sources.
Energy efficiency objectives were raised - with 989 GWh in new savings, bringing the company closer to its 2015 target of 11 TWh in total annual savings.
Net power sales outside Québec replaced thermal output, preventing 9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of the annual emissions produced by 2.25 million vehicles.
Construction continued on the $6.5 billion Romaine hydropower complex, which is considered the largest infrastructure project in Canada.
The part of Hydro-Quebec in Quebec's economy represent around 4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), excluding construction activities, research and development and activities of the subsidiaries.

For its Sustainability Report 2010, Hydro-Québec produced a self-declaration, checked by the GRI, corresponding to Application Level B of the Global Reporting Initiative’s G3 guidelines. Moreover, some of the data has been reviewing by an external firm.

Hydro-Québec is one of the leading electric utilities in North America and ranks among the world’s largest hydropower producers. It uses mainly renewable generating options, specifically hydropower and wind power.
