The report announces the company’s five-year sustainability strategy and provides information on 2010 sustainability performance.
Following a return to sustainable and profitable growth in 2010, the report launches the company’s five-year sustainability strategy and promises, and discusses the initiatives they took in 2010 to progress on this journey.
It also describes the company’s plans for a groundbreaking new product, the Triple-E. The Triple-E is the largest and most CO2 efficient container ship ever, increasing capacity by 16% without requiring more power. The new ships could result in a 50% reduction in CO2 per container.
Maersk Line has set ambitious goals to help them grow while minimising its environmental impact, including a 25% C02 reduction by 2020 (relative to 2007) and a drive towards zero sulphur emissions to improve air quality for communities around ports.
In 2010, Maersk Line reduced CO2 emissions by 4.6% and was the first ocean carrier to have its fleet’s carbon emissions independently verified. The report includes CO2 data for every vessel.
In 2010, 83% of Maersk Line’s employees said the company is making a genuine commitment to protect the environment. In 2011, the company will continue its journey to mobilise its organisation towards more sustainable performance.
