Sustainable development can be described as the practice of efficiently using energy and natural resources to meet current needs without compromising the needs of future generations. USG defines sustainability as balancing economic, environmental and social factors to guide business decisions creating long term value for the corporation, its stakeholders and society.

The report, organized in three sections--environmental, social and economic sustainability, reviews USG's efforts throughout the past year and describes some of the company's future objectives.
