Union Pacific’s 2009 Sustainability and Citizenship Report highlights the company’s commitment to protecting the environment, enhancing its position as an employer of choice, being a valuable member of the more than 7,000 communities in which it operates, and diligently working on behalf of shareholders, employees and customers to be among the best-governed companies in America.
The report includes: Highlights in the areas of environment, society, and governance and ethics;
Sustainability and citizenship goals;
Union Pacific’s environmental policy;
Achievements in reducing the company’s environmental footprint;
Information about the company’s employee benefits and nationally recognized health and wellness programs;
Union Pacific’s commitment to employee, public and customer safety;
Community support and engagement efforts; and
Governance and ethics policies.
In formulating its 2009 Sustainability and Citizenship Report, Union Pacific considered the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) 2006 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, which provide a standard framework and guidance for organizations to report on their sustainability performance.
