Ball’s second sustainability report outlines the company’s sustainability vision, five priority areas and long-term directions. It also includes performance indicators for each priority as well as measurable goals for the next reporting period. The priority areas were determined using a materiality process with Ball’s key stakeholders.

Some of Ball’s key achievements during 2008 and 2009 include:

Investments of more than $36 million in energy savings projects.
Reduction in total energy use of 11 percent and improved energy efficiency per 1000 units produced of 9 percent.
Reduction in total water use of 8.6 percent and improved water efficiency per 1000 units produced of 5.5 percent.
Improvement in recordable accident rate of 39 percent.
A decline of 13 percent in Ball’s normalized greenhouse gas emissions since 2005.
