Full performance scores for each of its operations around the world against the company’s Ten Priorities for sustainable development can be found at www.sabmiller.com/sam.
SABMiller regards sustainable development as core to its business strategy, enabling current and future success by investing in the fundamental drivers of sustainable growth in local communities.
This not only requires investment in brewing plant and distribution fleet, but also in the health of employees and their families, in protecting watersheds around its breweries, and in education and support services for local farmers and shop-keepers. As its does this, SABMiller does not seek to displace local government or civil society organisations but to work with them as partners for better economic, social and environmental outcomes.
Key highlights from the past year include:
SABMiller’s continued commitment to discourage irresponsible drinking by signing up to a global plan of action to help combat the harmful use of alcohol, and training over 75% of employees in alcohol responsibility.
Creating the Water Futures partnership with WWF to protect watersheds critical for its business, local communities and the environment, and reducing water consumption per hectolitre of beer produced by 4%.
Recycling or reusing 96% of waste generated and developing new packaging recycling partnerships.
Working with over 28,000 smallholder farmers to source raw materials locally, helping to reduce the need for imported ingredients whilst enhancing the income of local farmers.
SABMiller plc is one of the world’s largest brewers with brewing interests and distribution agreements across six continents. The group companies produce a portfolio of over 200 brands and are also one of the largest bottlers of Coca-Cola products in the world.
