Canada’s export credit agency, Export Development Canada (EDC), has published its 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR). EDC’s 6th CSR Report, the report is GRI-checked at level B+, and a report by the Independent Reviewer, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, can be found in the report.
The report uses a classic triple bottom line format to outline CSR achievements and challenges and enhances the platform with significant reporting on EDC’s human rights assessment methodology. Key among EDC’s CSR achievements in 2009 were:
temporary expansion of EDC’s mandate to provide more support for Canadian exporters and investors during the economic crisis; enhancement of its human rights assessment process to ensure that relevant transaction receive human rights analysis; completion of extensive stakeholder engagement on EDC’s Environmental Policy (new policy to be released in 2010); identification of climate change among EDC’s CSR strategic priorities; the purchase of carbon offsets for business travel; deployment of first EDC volunteers under EDC-CARE Canada partnership to work on microfinance initiatives in Peru; and recruitment of Chair in Environmental Finance as part of partnership with the University of Waterloo.
