Now published annually, the report met a GRI-checked level of A+ for the second consecutive year. It highlights achievements in areas such as workplace safety, environment and climate change, and access to housing, among them:

Reduced employee lost-time injury frequency Rate 33%, to 3.2 incidents per million hours worked; on track to reach 2.5 by the end of 2010
Provided safety training for drivers at 97% of operations; on track to achieve 100%
Increased use of alternative fuels to 16.4% more than three times than in 2005; on track for 23% by 2020
Cut CO2 emissions per metric ton of cement 20.7% relative to 1990; on track for 25% reduction by 2015
Official verification visits to three UN Clean Development Mechanism projects, expected to reduce direct CO2 emissions by more than 800,000 tons per year
Began co-chairing the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Urban Infrastructure Initiative; joined the UN Environment Program’s Sustainable Building and Climate Initiative
More than 260,000 families have participated in the Patrimonio Hoy program, which is now available in five countries and was recognized with the UN HABITAT Business Award in the category of affordable housing

The report includes an external limited assurance statement by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the fourth consecutive year, and a statement by the company’s Advisory Panel.
