The report demonstrates how Abbott is applying its expertise in science, public health, technology and engineering to improve global health care and build sustainable solutions, while minimizing its impact on the environment.

Abbott is advancing its citizenship efforts in four critical, material areas: innovating for the future, enhancing access to medicine and health care, protecting patients and consumers, and safeguarding the environment. Highlights of the company's accomplishments against these strategic priorities include:
supporting scientific advancement in emerging markets by opening new laboratories in China and Singapore
partnering with the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative to help develop new treatments for conditions that disproportionately impact the developing world - such as malaria, tuberculosis and Chagas disease
investing more than $580 million in grants, product donations and capacity-building partnerships to increase access to medicines and health care services around the world
reducing normalized carbon emissions by 36 per cent over a four-year period by improving energy efficiency, switching to low carbon fuels and investing in renewable energy
pledging to cut absolute carbon emissions by 15 per cent and water use by 50 per cent by 2015.
