To “MAKE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN for society” is the claim of RWE’s Corporate Responsibility Report 2009. The report provides detailed information on RWE’s objectives, key measures and performance in the field of energy and climate, marketplace, workplace and community, based on a comprehensive set of facts and figures.
The report describes the most important challenges facing RWE’s core business, the conflicts of interest to which these can give rise, and the strategy RWE has developed in response. RWE’s CR strategy is based on ten areas for action. In fiscal 2009, key performance indicators were defined to ascertain and document RWE’s progress or setbacks in each area for action. Performance in sustainability is henceforth be considered in Executive Board compensation as well.
The report focuses on RWE’s CR priorities which include among others RWE’s climate protection strategy, security of supply, occupational health and safety as well as community engagement. The report also covers the greater use of renewables, the increase of efficiency as well as stakeholder dialogue. Country profiles provide an overview about the activities of RWE in its core markets.
RWE is one of Europe’s five leading electricity and gas companies. Its activities comprise the generation, trading, transmission and supply of electricity and gas, lignite mining and oil and gas production. More than 70,000 employees supply over 16 million customers with electricity and some 8 million customers with gas. In fiscal 2009, RWE recorded about € 48 billion in revenue. RWE has been a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) since its inception in 1999. September 2009 saw RWE once again included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.
