PepsiCo UK (PUK), the company behind Tropicana, Walkers, Pepsi and Quaker, has today published its first Health Report.

The report outlines its vision for future business growth and profit to come from healthier products, and sets out a series of short, medium and long-term targets.

In recent years, the company has responded to rising public concerns about obesity by reducing levels of saturates and salt in their products, building strong no-sugar cola brands and acquiring Quaker and Tropicana. PepsiCo UK now want to go further, acting as a positive agent for change in the UK food and drink industry, and building a future business based on delivering fruit, vegetables, wholegrain and fibre.

The Report’s pledges include:

50% of savoury snacks to be baked, or include positive nutrition, by 2015
65% of carbonated soft drink can and bottle sales to be no sugar, by 2015
Invest 70% of R&D budget to deliver products defined as healthier, by 2012
Deliver 1.8bn servings of fruit and vegetables, and 1.7bn servings of wholegrain per annum, by 2012
Introduce a single serve calorie cap of 160 Calories across single serve savoury snacks without positive nutrition, by 2015

The Report also sets out PepsiCo UK’s desire to work in partnership – with government, with stakeholders, with customers and most importantly, with consumers& - to help them make healthier choices.

PUK is among the UK's largest food and drink makers and employs over 5,500 people across 13 locations. As well as its core brands, PUK's portfolio includes the household names of Copella, Snack-a-Jacks, Scott’s Porage and SunBites, among others.

The report covers data and information for the period January – December 2008 and refers only to the UK and Ireland operations of PepsiCo.
