Nestlé has published its new Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report 2009, which this year highlights the company's achievements on nutrition, water and environmental sustainability, and rural development.

The report, available as a detailed 90-page report or a condensed 24-page summary, shows that Nestlé has achieved a 59 per cent reduction in water withdrawal per tonne of product since 2000. For the first time Nestlé has also reported in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Reporting Framework and declared an application level of B+.

The key performance indicator section reveals that more than 165,000 individual farmers and suppliers were trained through capacity-building programmes during 2009. Last year also saw significant improvements by the company in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water use and creation of waste and by-products.

Other 2009 performance highlights include:
7252 products renovated for nutrition or health considerations
a 48 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of product since 2000
12.2 per cent of on-site energy use from renewable sources
