Report Highlights

With its „Corporate Responsibility Report 2009“, Commerzbank presents for the third time its activities and achievements regarding sustainability and corporate responsibility. The report was reviewed by the internationally renowned Global Reporting Initiative and awarded the best possible grade of “A”. It is available online at http://sustainability2009.commerzbank.com and covers four fields of action:

Economy
Corporate and project financing along the whole of the renewable energies value-added chain form the core of Commerzbank’s wide range of sustainable products and services. Innovative emissions trading products and the climate:coach, a new consulting service on improving energy efficiency for corporate customers, also have high market potential.

Environment
Commerzbank has laid the foundation for sustainable environmental and climate management with the adoption of its climate strategy, environmental policy and the consolidation of the environmental management systems of Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank.

Employees
Motivated and committed staff are of vital importance for a financial service provider. Commerzbank supports its staff by providing flexible working opportunities, company pension and childcare programmes. A number of activities such as staff networks and equal opportunity programmes focus on diversity in the workplace.

Society
In particular through its foundations, Commerzbank is involved in education and research, art, culture and social causes. In 2008, the sponsorship volume of the Commerzbank Foundation alone was approx. €1.5m, and since its formation in 1970 it has donated a total of €21.3m.

With the takeover of Dresdner Bank in January 2009, Commerzbank became Germany’s leading bank for private and corporate customers. It is the second largest financial institution in Germany and, with a total of nearly 15 million customers, one of the leading banks in Europe. Commerzbank has traditionally been a competent service provider for private and corporate customers as well as for small and medium-sized businesses, while also serving numerous large and multinational corporate customers.
