This report covers Optus' performance for the financial year ending 31 March 2009 and demonstrates how sustainability is being continually integrated into everyday business thinking and operations.
Key highlights of the report include: Providing greater access to affordable communications technologies through the expansion of services such as mobile and wireless broadband into rural and regional Australia - areas that have traditionally been serviced by one provider
Reducing environmental footprint through energy efficiency initiatives across the network and operations, increasing sustainable travel options for employees and managing the biodiversity impacts of network expansion
Working with suppliers to screen and improve environmental and social performance
Creating a positive workplace culture through employee engagement, wellbeing initiatives, professional development and a focus on health and safety
Supporting community partnerships and investing in programs that connect disengaged youth and provide access to communications to those who are isolated due to geography or disadvantaged circumstances
Optus continues to use the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines and meets the requirements of the 'A' application level. While the Report has been informed by this global standard, the content of the Report is focused on their key material issues and those of their stakeholders.
