Report Highlights

Report Profile
Ideas drive Volkswagen forward. That‘s why “Driving Ideas” is the motto of the third Volkswagen Group Sustainability Report. www.SustainabilityReport2009.volkswagenag.com

The social and environmental challenges of our times form an integral part of Volkswagen’s activities, closely linked with the Group‘s core economic processes.

The main concern of the report is to make this comprehensive perspective available to all interested stakeholders, such as financial market players and potential candidates for future management roles, and enter into a dialogue with them. This holistic approach provides a unique insight into the global activities of the company and into the Volkswagen Group‘s commitment to sustainable development. The Sustainability Report, which has been inspected by the PricewaterhouseCoopers firm of auditors in line with the AccountAbility AA1000 Assurance Standard (2008), also documents the fact that this commitment is rewarded by the inclusion in the most important international sustainability indexes. Furthermore, the GRI has confirmed that the reporting qualifies for Application Level A+.

Facts, Figures and Goals
The key indicators section covering environmental, financial and social metrics has been substantially expanded and for the first time includes the CO2 emissions figure for Volkswagen’s new car fleet in Europe. Another major innovation is the presentation of relative indicators, facilitating comparison and making for greater transparency.

As in past reports, goals are shown together with the relevant deadlines.
