Report Highlights

MTR Corporation is a globally recognised leader in mass transit rail services providing transportation for over 4 million passengers every weekday in Hong Kong. With development rights along the rail network, the Corporation is also one of the largest property owners and managers in Hong Kong. The company is acutely aware of corporate sustainability and is shaping the future of Hong Kong, notably by building and maintaining a sustainable railway that meets the needs of present and future generations.

The report is the first full year of sustainability reporting since the rail merger of 2 December 2007. It is a GRI G3 report with an A+ level of application.

The theme Engagement builds on the Company’s new Vision, Mission and Values. The report summarises the performance, commitments and plans in terms of sustainable competitive advantage and outlines the integration of the culture and the systems through the company.

Two report highlights:

A detailed description of its Sustainable Competitive Advantage model, Materiality Matrix and reporting under the BS 8900:2006 Guidance for Managing Sustainable Development and how it was applied to the railway merger in Hong Kong; and
A timeline “Bridging Generations” showing how the Company is bridging intergenerational expectations through the continuous cooperation amongst community, government and enterprise by connecting and growing communities in Hong Kong with caring services over the last 40 years.
