SABMiller publishes its 2009 Sustainable Development Report. The report is available as a pdf download at: www.sabmiller.com/index.asp?pageid=111&category=susdevelopment.

The report highlights key developments including: a new climate change strategy to reduce fossil fuel emissions from energy use on SABMiller sites by 50% per litre of beer by 2020; a new water strategy with a target to improve water efficiency by 25% by 2015; the development of a comprehensive internal alcohol education programme; the launch of TalkingAlcohol.com; and a review of their smallholder farming projects.

The report provides an update of progress against each of the company’s 10 sustainable development priorities. For the first time, demonstrating the company’s commitment to transparency, it is publishing the detailed information of its sustainable development performance by operating company, from Nile Breweries in Uganda to Bavaria in Colombia. The data measured from Sustainability Assessment Matrix is available on the SABMiller website in an interactive scorecard at www.sabmiller.com/index.asp?pageid=1709.

The report includes case studies from around the company’s regions, demonstrating how it is making a difference. In response to feedback, it also includes a report on engagement with the company’s associate in China, CR Snow. In addition there is information on ‘our people’, ‘products and quality’, and the inclusion of an assurance statement from Corporate Citizenship.
The report is supported by additional information on the SABMiller website at www.sabmiller.com. This includes a GRI G3 content matrix as well as additional performance data. SABMiller remains committed to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact and this report, with accompanying material on the SABMiller website, presents the annual ‘Communication on Progress’.
