UK energy company RWE npower has released its sixth full corporate responsibility report, available online at www.rwenpowercr.com.

The report describes how the company is responding to the challenge of delivering affordable and reliable energy to their customers with the least impact on the environment. It also describes their achievements in 2008, and the targets they have set for 2009 and beyond as they strive to undertake all aspects of their business responsibly.

Key facts from the report include:

As older power stations close, RWE npower plans to invest more than £1 billion each year over the next 10 years to deliver secure, cleaner, affordable energy.
RWE npower has committed over £400 million to help people reduce the energy they use.
In 2008 RWE npower spent over £16 million on their work to assist vulnerable members of society through their Spreading Warmth and Health Through Warmth programmes.
Last year RWE npower reduced its sulphur dioxide emissions by over 27%.
RWE npower was ranked Platinum by Business in the Community (BitC) in the Corporate Responsibility Index and maintained their ranking as a Times Top 50 Company ‘Where Women Want to Work’.
RWE npower was the only energy company to be awarded the prestigious BitC CommunityMark in 2008, recognising its long standing commitment to working in partnership with the community.

Building on previous reports, this year RWE npower has included more case studies to illustrate their commitment to Corporate Responsibility.

The data and information in the web-based report has been independently assured by Two Tomorrows, guided by the new AA1000 Assurance Standard (2008).

RWE npower serves around 6.6 million customer accounts and produce more than 10% of the electricity used in England and Wales.
