Verizon is pleased to announce publication of its 2008/2009 corporate responsibility report, Doing the Work (www.verizon.com/responsibility). The report describes how Verizon is using technology to drive positive change in communities and help solve social issues.

The report highlights Verizon’s commitment to performance excellence. The company’s CR Council has been diligent in setting goals and assigning accountability for results, consistent with its business imperatives. This report expands upon a comprehensive section that describes objectives and performance in each of six corporate responsibility priority areas.

The report features two new sections added based upon feedback received on previous reports: “challenges” and “voice of our stakeholders.”

The challenges section describes some of the wireless safety, content, Internet safety and online advertising issues Verizon is facing as digital technology becomes more engrained in customers’ lives.

The stakeholder engagement section describes how the company maintains continuous dialogue with a wide range of people whose input is important. For the first time, the report includes results from an anonymous stakeholder survey designed to solicit candid feedback on Verizon’s social, educational and environmental programs.

Finally, the report includes two feature sections on the environment and health care. The environment section highlights how Verizon is delivering on its environmental responsibilities and how broadband technology assists customers to become more energy efficient. The health care section describes how broadband improves the quality of health care delivery.

While there are always more challenges ahead, this report describes some of the areas Verizon is focusing on in 2009 to deliver the benefits of advanced communications technology to its customers and communities.
