Report Highlights

Total, the world’s fifth largest publicly-traded integrated oil and gas company, has recently published its 2008 Environment and Society Report, entitled Our Corporate Responsibilities. To download the report, go to www.total.com/csr.

The report is designed to facilitate dialogue with the Group’s stakeholders, including employees, shareholders, business partners, local authorities and institutions, neighbouring communities and academics. Using real-world examples from various subsidiaries and business units, it covers how Total addresses key challenges arising from its activities.

The 100-page print version is divided into two main sections: Our Business Principles and Our Main Challenges. This latest section gathers all the primary concerns of Total’s stakeholders, which guide company strategy and address such issues as non-renewables, greenhouse gas emissions, energy saving, sustainable growth, environmental impacts, diversity or community development.

This year, for the first time, the report includes insights by external experts such as Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medecine, Arvind Ganesan, Director of the Business and Human Rights Program at Human Rights Watch and Ronald G. Prinn, TEPCO Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry.

Some of the environmental and social data published in the report have been externally verified by Ernst & Young and KPMG, with a moderate level of assurance.

Hard copies in English and French can be ordered. Please send your request to direc.contact-internet@total.com.
