ADFIAP’s Reporting Milestone
In step with its thrust to advance issues on sustainable development, the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) has published its first Integrated Annual and Sustainability Report for 2008 available at www.adfiap.org
The report was launched during its 32nd Annual Meetings in Muscat, Oman on April 28, 2009, attended by 87 delegates from ADFIAP member-institutions representing 36 countries and partner organizations.
This was the first Sustainability Report ADFIAP prepared in compliance with the C level indicators of the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G3 Reporting Guidelines. The ADFIAP report was self-declared and complied with 12 performance indicators relevant and material to the Association’s sustainability performance.
ADFIAP and the Environment
ADFIAP’s work on promoting “greenbanking” started in 1998, signing a declaration on “Development Banking and the Environment”. From 2000-2004, ADFIAP ran capacity-building programs on environmental due diligence in the region with the US-Asia Environmental Partnership, a USAID initiative. Building on this project, the European Commission through its EU-Asia Pro Eco Programme, provided ADFIAP a grant in 2005 to run training events on environmental management, integrating environmental aspects in bank lending process.
For the first time in its 33-year history, ADFIAP engaged in a voluntary carbon emission offset of the total travel miles and energy use of its Manila-based Secretariat office in 2008.
