ANZ's latest Corporate Responsibility Review ( www.anz.com/cr2008 ) describes its performance against publicly-stated goals and response to the material CR issues for its business and sector in 2008, including the implications of the global financial crisis for its business and customers. The Review also details the bank's future CR priorities to support its strategy to become a major financial services organisation in the Asia Pacific region.

Significant achievements in 2008 included:

Maintaining the highest retail customer satisfaction of all major Australian banks
Implementing 'Customer Connect', a program to improve the way staff assist customers in financial difficulty
Introducing new social and environment policies to guide lending decisions
Recruiting 106 Indigenous Australians as trainees – a practical step to improve Indigenous social and economic inclusion in Australia

These and other results contributed to ANZ being assessed as the leading bank globally on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the second consecutive year.
