Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced today the publication of the 'Sustainability Report 2008', which provides details concerning the company's economic, environmental and social strategies and achievements for the Fiscal Year 2007. www.toyota.eu.

Highlights:
Toyota continues to invest in Europe, spending nearly 300 million euro in 2007 to expand and improve its operations. These efforts include the inauguration of a new manufacturing plant in Russia, the expansion of its engine plant in UK, the opening of a new parts logistics centre in the Czech Republic, and the expansion of the part logistics centre in Belgium.

Toyota's response to the environmental challenge is to take an integrated and holistic approach. It covers the complete life-cycle of all Toyota products and is built into all processes. The company has introduced 4 new areas to focus on:

Sustainable Mobility - with the design and development of 'greener cars' like the iQ or the Plug-in hybrid.
Sustainable Plants - all Toyota sites in Europe achieved their original 2010 environmental targets three years ahead of schedule and have set new targets.
Sustainable Retail - TME is introducing this concept to help Toyota retailers achieve industry-leading environmental performance.
To address biofuels issues, Toyota has invited the Director General of the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), to share her views on biofuels.

Toyota has always sought to instil a strong sense of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) across all its activities. By focusing on stakeholder expectations and measuring performance in CSR, Toyota seeks to identify opportunities for sustainable growth in the medium and long term. To measure the effectiveness of its activities, Toyota has introduced in 2007 an enhanced, performance measuring tool: the CSR Assessment.

The TME Sustainability Report will be launched today at the World Conservation Congress in Barcelona - the world's largest environmental NGO event.
