SABMiller publishes 'Making a difference through beer', its 2008 Sustainable Development Report. The report is available as a pdf download here
The global brewer’s latest offering provides an update of progress against each of the company’s 10 sustainable development priorities. In response to feedback, this year it also includes more information on stakeholder engagement and additional case studies illustrating how SABMiller is making a real difference on the ground.
During the year three priorities were identified which offer an opportunity for SABMiller to take a leadership position – discouraging irresponsible drinking, making more beer but using less water and encouraging enterprise development in its value chains. The report explains the rationale for this focus and the actions taken. These include: establishing a new Alcohol Framework; working with African governments on alcohol policy; setting new environmental standards for new breweries; investing in local sourcing and small-scale supplier relationships; and signing the CEO Water Mandate from the United Nations Global Compact. In addition there is information on ‘our people’, ‘products and quality’, and an assurance statement from Corporate Citizenship.
