Bayer has published the Sustainable Development Report 2007 in German and English, the report can be found on the Internet at www.sustainability2007.bayer.com

This report reaffirms the commitment to climate protection and sustainability. Between 1990 and 2007, Bayer lowered the absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 37 percent according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, i.e. adjusted for portfolio effects. For the future this means achieving targeted growth without increasing climate impact.

To take into account the increasing importance of sustainability reporting Bayer has now combined all essential quantitative data and qualitative information on the subject areas of economics, employees, human rights, social responsibility, ecology and product stewardship in a "Performance Report" comprising six chapters. In four special sections the company also features four focus issues giving the reader extensive information on the strategies and activities in the particularly relevant fields of climate protection, procurement management, access to medicines and corporate compliance. With this new structure Bayer wants to further increase the transparency of the reporting for the various stakeholder groups.

As in previous years the company has aligned itself to the internationally recognized guidelines of the “Global Reporting Initiative” to ensure the completeness and the systematic and transparent nature of reporting on the sustainable development activities. The GRI has examined the report itself and given it an “A+” – the highest possible rating.

You will find the GRI Index on the inside of the back cover. The Focus Issue sections and the Performance Report were also certified by corporate auditors Ernst & Young.
