British American Tobacco p.l.c. has published its first sustainability report at www.bat.com/sustainability. The move to sustainability reporting marks a significant shift for the company, as it embraces a sustainability vision and agenda that addresses its key business-related social, environmental and economic impacts in a way that aims to build value for all its stakeholders, including shareholders.

The report covers the company's key sustainability goals, the stakeholder dialogue that informed them, and the actions that BAT will be taking in order to achieve these goals:
Harm Reduction: BAT will strive to bring commercially viable, consumer acceptable reduced-risk products to market.
Marketplace: BAT will take a lead in upholding high standards of corporate conduct in the marketplace.
Supply chain: BAT will work for positive social, environmental and economic impacts in the supply chain.
Environment: BAT will actively address the impacts of its business on the natural environment.
People and Culture: BAT will work to ensure they have the right people in the right environment to deliver their vision.

BAT’s first sustainability report builds on over six years of social reporting and stakeholder dialogue. It has sharper focus on BAT’s material issues and long term challenges than were covered in its previous social reports. The report also aims to provide more meaningful targets and performance measures to help stakeholders judge the company’s performance year on year.

British American Tobacco engaged Ernst & Young LLP to provide external assurance over the Report, guided by AA1000 Assurance Standard and ISAE3000. Full reporting against the GRI G3 indicators can be found online.
