Last year British Land carried out a review of corporate responsibility activities, informed by expert opinion, stakeholder feedback and benchmarking. As a result it has developed a new, fresh approach to corporate responsibility, engaging with stakeholders and managing impacts on the environment, Building Together. This is built on four cornerstones: our use of resources; our customers and us; our communities and us; us and our suppliers.

Since 2004 British Land has reduced energy use across landlord controlled areas of the portfolio by 21%, lowered water use by 26% and cut carbon emissions by 15%, despite the floor area almost doubling during the same period. Overall customer satisfaction has increased to 73% in 2007 from 40% in 2005. This information has been independently assured by Bureau Veritas.
