For the first time, the Report includes performance updates across all 100 of the company's Plan A commitments along with baselines and key performance indicators.
The report has been produced to level C of the third generation GRI framework and meets retail industry requirements as set out in the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) environmental reporting guidelines for UK business. Independent assurance has been provided by Ernst & Young. Greenhouse gas emissions have been calculated using the international GHG protocol and the latest DEFRA conversion factors published in July 2007.
Marks & Spencer is the retail sector leader in the 2007 Dow Jones Sustainability Index and is included in the 2008 FTSE4Good Index and the 2008 Global 100 most sustainable corporations. The company was also awarded the 2008 World Environment Centre Gold Medal for Sustainable Business.
