Total, the world’s fourth largest publicly-traded integrated oil and gas company, has recently published its 2007 Environment and Society Report, entitled Our Corporate Responsibilities. To download the report, go to www.total.com/csr.

Prepared annually since 2002, the report is designed to facilitate dialogue with the Group’s stakeholders, including employees, shareholders, business partners, local authorities and institutions, neighbouring communities and academics.

The 52-page print version is divided into four main sections corresponding to the primary concerns of Total’s stakeholders, which guide company strategy: Meeting Energy Demand Sustainably, Being a Responsible Corporate Citizen, Contributing to Host Country Development, and Operating in Challenging Environments.

Using real-world examples from various subsidiaries and business units, the report covers how Total addresses key challenges arising from its activities, such as promoting human rights, combating climate change, contributing to local development in non-OECD countries, and ensuring financial transparency.

This year, for the first time, the report includes a 32-page pullout section covering the main environmental and social performance indicators tracked by Total. The pullout section also includes the Assurance Report on certain environmental and social indicators.

The report complies with the IPIECA Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Voluntary Sustainability Reporting and is in line with the Global Reporting Initiative 3. It has been externally verified by Ernst & Young and KPMG, with a moderate level of assurance.
