Mirvac, a leading integrated real estate group listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), has published its 2007 Sustainability Report. The report is available online as a PDF at www.mirvac.com.au/about/enviro_sustreport.asp
This is the second public sustainability report for the Mirvac Group and is a mixture of sustainability activity reporting for the 2007 calendar year and disclosure of future short-term commitments for action prior to 30 September 2008.
Over the past 12 months Mirvac has worked to develop and consolidate its sustainability strategy, transitioning from a project based approach to sustainability, to a strategic Group wide activities-focussed approach. The establishment of clear performance objectives, targets and measures provides the necessary structure for the Group‘s forward planning and expansion.
Other significant highlights include:
The March 2007 opening of Orion Springfield in south-east Queensland, one of the world's most sustainable shopping centres.
The GridX Trigeneration System at Mirvac Vision Estate, Glenfield awarded the 2007 Banksia Climate Award, one of Australia’s most prestigious environmental awards.
Mirvac was included in the 2006 and 2007 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) in recognition of its strong position to manage climate change risks and capture opportunities.
Mirvac partnered with the international student organisation AIESEC to deliver Project Echo, a youth focussed program to encourage the implementation of sustainable practices on a global level.
In September, Mirvac launched the Mirvac Sustainability@Work program focussing on employee participation to reduce the environmental impacts of Mirvac office-based activities and embed a culture of sustainability within the Mirvac workforce.
The Mirvac Foundation was established to provide financial and people support to national or State based charities to fund and build specific projects in a number of key areas including community development and environmental improvement and protection.
