Report Highlights

Imperial Tobacco Group PLC has published its fifth Corporate Responsibility (CR) Review. You can read it online or download it as a PDF at www.imperial-tobacco.com.

This year the Review endeavours to answer the question 'What does it take to build a responsible business?’

The Review gives a general overview of Imperial Tobacco’s commitment and approach to corporate responsibility and of its performance during the 2007 financial year, in areas such as:

bullet product stewardship
bullet environmental management
bullet employment
bullet occupational health and safety
bullet supplier and customer relationships
bullet community investment.

Performance is reported in relation to the product value chain, using case studies from global operations. Data covers activities where the Group has majority ownership or operational control, or where it has appreciable influence with suppliers and other business partners.

The Review sets out five priorities for the next five years:

bullet Better carbon management
bullet Product portfolio balance
bullet Supplier sustainability
bullet Empowering local management to better engage in corporate responsibility
bullet Further increasing transparency in how the Group adheres to its policies.

Imperial Tobacco will also continue its activities in the areas of occupational health and safety, environment and community investment, as well as continuing to develop its management systems.

As in previous years, the Review was verified by SGS United Kingdom Limited. This year the scope and depth of the assurance was increased in line with GRI G3 and disclosure was assessed at level B+.

The critiques of Dr Magnus MacFarlane, independent social consultant and research fellow at the universities of Oxford and Warwick, and Mr Mokhethi Moshoshoe, President of CIVA Innovation Management and Director of Lesotho Financial Solutions, have been reproduced in the Review.

Imperial Tobacco is the world’s fourth largest international tobacco company which manufactures and sells a comprehensive range of cigarettes, tobaccos, rolling papers, filter tubes and cigars. Feedback on its approach and performance is invited via cr@uk.imptob.com
