Report Highlights

Merck KGaA, the Darmstadt-based chemical and pharmaceutical company, has published its 2007 Corporate Responsibility Report entitled “Responsibility for Employees, the Environment and the Community”. The report can be downloaded from the company’s Corporate Responsibility website at www.responsibility.merck.de. The website also expands further on the report.

Responsibility for products, employees, the environment and the community is firmly anchored in Merck’s mission statement, values and strategy. The report explains how this responsibility is lived in the day-to-day-operations.

Of special note is the new Merck Social Charter, which defines the minimum labor standards that must be met worldwide. Furthermore, Merck has realigned and strategically positioned its charitable activities. The Merck-Praziquantel Donation Program, which is aimed at combating the parasitic disease schistosomiasis, is one of the core charitable projects.

The data section of the report has been expanded and reflects the new guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative. With this report, Merck is also demonstrating its efforts to implement the principles of the UN Global Compact.
