10th KPMG survey explores reporting on climate risk, SDGs, human rights and more

KPMG has published its 2017 Survey of Corporate Responsibility Reporting - arguably the most authoritative snapshot of CSR and sustainability reporting trends around the world. Based on analysis of reporting by almost 5,000 companies, it is KPMG’s most extensive survey to date.

Key findings include:

  • Almost three quarters of large companies worldwide do not yet acknowledge the financial risks of climate change in their annual financial reports
  • The majority of companies that set carbon reduction targets are yet to align their targets with the targets set by governments or the UN, such as the 2°C Paris Agreement goal
  • More than one third of reports connect companies’ CSR activities to the SDGs, rising to over 40 percent when looking at the world’s 250 largest companies
  • Around three quarters of company reports recognize human rights as a corporate responsibility issue the company needs to address. Companies based in India, the UK and Japan are the most likely to acknowledge the issue of human rights.
