This Veterans Day, we honor service members — past, present, and future, who have served their country. This Friday, November 11th, Veterans as well as spouses of Veterans receive the day off to celebrate and acknowledge their service with their family and community.

GoDaddy has hired hundreds of Veterans on a global scale. We even have an employee resource group called GDVET, whose goal is to aid in the hiring, retention, and development of Veteran and Veteran spouses.

Seth Good has been with GoDaddy for 8 years. He is a Senior Supervisor in Care here at GoDaddy and a member of GDVET. Get to know more about Seth, his time serving, and lessons learned from the Navy.

How long did you serve in the military and what was your experience there?

I served 7 years in the Navy as a Sonar Technician aboard a Guided Missile Destroyer (USS Curtis Wilbur). I was stationed in various places, but my primary homeport was Yokosuka Japan. During that time, I also served as one of the ship’s SAR swimmers (Search and Rescue) as well as being part of the VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure) team where we boarded foreign vessels to ensure they were not transporting contraband. In that time, I visited roughly 15 different countries and experienced a multitude of different cultures. I was honorably discharged in late 1999. While in the reserves, I was asked to assist in providing security forces after September 11th, 2001.

My experience in the military is something I truly value. I do consider it a defining moment in my life that has shaped my future as a person, a father, and even a GoDaddy Employee.

How did your military service shape you into the person you are today?

The military played a profound influence on who I am today. It taught me discipline, responsibility, and most importantly, leadership. The military provided more life lessons than I can count and absolutely shaped me into the person I am today.

What are some things that help you feel included at GoDaddy, as a Veteran?

GDVET is the best resource in communicating and forming a community with other Veterans. Having a company that recognizes the sacrifice those Veterans gave is immeasurable. Having the day off for Veterans Day allows us as vets to take a step back and appreciate each other.

GoDaddy employees who are Veterans or are spouses of Veterans receive Veterans Day off. Do you have any special plans for the day?

Usually, I take part in the Veterans Day parade and plan to do so this year. My kids are getting older, and I would also like to take them to my local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) to volunteer. They offer dinner for homeless vets.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am an avid survival camper. I like challenging myself and bringing just the bare necessities out to live off the land for a few days. Additionally, I am a family man 100%. I am the Uber of the family — transporting kids to cheer practice, soccer, ninja, gymnastics, and so much more. Watching my kids grow and mature is the thing that brings me the most joy (and anxiety…lol) in my life.
