NEW YORK, September 8, 2022 /CSRwire/ - Libra Group, a privately-owned international business group whose subsidiaries own and operate assets in nearly 60 countries, today announced that it has become a signatory of the United Nations (UN) Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP). The announcement marks an important step as Libra Group works to foster business practices that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, across industries, and as part of the global community.

The announcement comes at a time when, according to the International Labour Organization, the global labor force participation rate for women is under 47% compared to 72% for men. In some regions, that gap far exceeds 50 percentage points.

“If 50% of people in a society are not given opportunities, then we lose 50% of our possibility as a society; It is a half-future, not a full future,” said Libra Group Chairman and CEO George M. Logothetis. “We need a society that includes all women, and we strongly support the Women’s Empowerment Principles. Our Group commits to continuing to support and uplift women within our ecosystem while also looking to advance global gender equality, which is fundamental to both business and society.”

The WEPs promote practices such as equal pay for work of equal value and zero tolerance against sexual harassment in the workplace. These are practices that Libra Group demonstrates through actions that advance women globally, provide equal treatment for women and men, and promote pay parity between female and male employees.

“Since joining Libra Group in 2005, I have seen the empowerment and advancement of women across the organization firsthand,” said Arguiró Elefteriu, Chief Sustainability Officer of Libra Group. “Women’s empowerment has always been at the core of our business practices. The WEPs provide a framework to help integrate these principles across the Libra Group ecosystem and to find new opportunities to continue making a meaningful difference.”
