LINCOLN, Neb., April 27, 2022 /CSRwire/ – The Arbor Day Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary by ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street today.

“It was an honor to be invited by the iconic New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell as a way to celebrate our 50 years of impact on people and the planet through trees,” said Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation. “More companies now recognize that trees are not a nice-to-have, but a must-have that help them reach their climate and sustainability goals.”

Lambe rang the opening bell on behalf of the Foundation from the iconic bell podium that overlooks the trading floor.

The Arbor Day Foundation is headquartered in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, and has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to tree planting. It has helped to plant and distribute almost 500 million trees in more than 50 countries since its beginning in 1972. The Foundation has more than a million members, supporters and partners.

“Numerous corporate partners of the Arbor Day Foundation are companies that are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, so a moment like this is extra special for us,” Lambe said.

In addition to the Foundation’s own anniversary, Friday, April 29, also marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day, one of the oldest environmental holidays on the calendar.

The Arbor Day Foundation is using the anniversaries this week to announce its commitment to plant 500 million trees in the next five years with a focus in neighborhoods and forests of greatest need.
