Shiseido Americas Corporation (“Shiseido Americas”), a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Shiseido Company, Limited (“Shiseido”), a global beauty company, today announced that it is manufacturing and will donate hand sanitizer to local New York and New Jersey health facilities and other community outreach organizations on the front lines in response to the COVID-19 (“coronavirus”) pandemic. Under its employee-led social impact program “The Beauty of Helping Others,” Shiseido Americas is dedicating a portion of its otherwise temporarily closed East Windsor, NJ manufacturing facility to produce commercial and medical grade hand-sanitizing gels for donation to local facilities and organizations in need.

A group of skilled Shiseido Americas team members have signed on to execute this effort, and production will be complete in Mid-April. All production is in line with CDC safety standards and guidelines, as well as the FDA’s regulations for preparation of certain alcohol-based hand sanitizer products during the public health emergency, and the sanitizer contains 70% alcohol (ethanol) by volume.

“Helping others is part of our company’s DNA. Our incredible team embraces the spirit of omotenashi, which translates from Japanese as ‘heartfelt hospitality.’  In the midst of this global pandemic, we are proud to do our part in support of the courageous medical professionals and volunteers who are on the frontlines fighting the spread of coronavirus daily. This would not be possible without the goodwill of our dedicated employees and partners, to whom I extent my sincere gratitude,” said Shiseido Americas CEO, Marc Rey.

In June 2019, Shiseido Americas launched its employee-led social impact program, “The Beauty of Helping Others”, with a mission to bring beauty, happiness and kindness to the people and communities who need it most. Through the program, employees across the Company’s portfolio of brands volunteer their time by serving nonprofits that focus on empowering our youth, connecting with compassion and serving our communities. Since the program’s launch, employees have logged over 3,000 volunteer hours to over 150 nonprofit organizations. The manufacturing and distribution of free hand sanitizer will be the first time the Company produces a product under “The Beauty of Helping Others” initiative.
