Our team of experts apply industry experience and best-in-class research to develop high-performing flooring systems for healing spaces. Our biophilia-inspired showcase at this year’s expo highlights our commitment across multiple flooring categories.”
Earlier this morning, Mohawk Group was honored with a Gold Nightingale Award in the carpet category for the Relaxing Floors collection, and with a Gold Nightingale Award in the flooring: resilient category for True Hues rubber sheet. Presented by Healthcare Design magazine in partnership with The Center for Health Design, the Nightingale Awards recognize contribution to the healthcare built environment through product design and innovation that contributes to healing. Named in honor of Florence Nightingale and founded in 1990, the Nightingale Awards recognize products that are juried by seasoned healthcare design professionals and facility managers.
Mohawk Group’s presence at the expo in space 801 includes award-winning products stunning in innovation, beauty and performance. Each is inspired by nature, fueled by the desire to promote wellness and illustrates Mohawk’s belief that we can find new paths to wellness through the natural world.
Inspired by the beauty of terrazzo, Mohawk Group has created an all-new visual within its TRUE rubber flooring portfolio: True Hues. The Nightingale Award-winning rubber sheet product’s range of tone-on-tone, cool and warm neutrals—as well as useful greens, blue hues, red and purple—offers pops of color while effortlessly creating stunning and functional floor layouts. The wide array of colorways gives healthcare specifiers the tools and palettes they need to meet their goals for healing settings in any location where an aseptic environment is required. The colorfast rubber flooring’s matte finish reduces the risk of slips, trips and falls.
With True Hues’ Ngrain product treatment, no initial maintenance is required. True Hues flooring is easy to maintain, offers excellent stain resistance and does not require special procedures like sealing or waxing to maintain the product’s lasting beauty and effectiveness. True Hues is recommended for specification in patient rooms, examination rooms, nurses’ stations, corridors, pharmacies and operating suites. The portfolio was also recognized at NeoCon 2019 with the Best of NeoCon Silver award for healthcare flooring.
Designed by 13&9 in collaboration with Fractals Research and Mohawk Group, the Relaxing Floors 12" x 36" carpet plank system is the culmination of art, science and human-centered design based on fractal patterns, which scientific research shows have stress-reductive qualities. The Nightingale Award-winning collection utilizes these building blocks of many of nature’s designs to give our eyes a break from the digital world and deliver the essence of nature to the healthcare built environment.
Martin and Anastasija Lesjak of 13&9 worked closely with Richard Taylor, founder of Fractals Research and professor of physics, psychology and art at the University of Oregon, to create the next generation of flooring solutions with Mohawk Group. The research that inspired the development of Relaxing Floors led to a completely new strategy that the Lesjaks refer to as human-centric design. Taylor was eager to apply his work in the design of Relaxing Floors because of research that shows surgery patients recover more quickly if given a window looking out at nature; when a person looks at nature’s fractal patterns, for instance, the human body relaxes up to 60%.
Relaxing Floors is Living Product Challenge Petal Certified and manufactured using Mohawk Group’s Duracolor Tricor solution-dyed nylon fiber and EcoFlex NXT tile backing. Duracolor Tricor utilizes a groundbreaking modified triangular-shaped core to deliver unsurpassed stain resistance, colorfastness, durability, color clarity and enhanced soil performance. Relaxing Floors is appropriate for a variety of healthcare spaces including waiting rooms, hospital lobbies and medical office buildings.
LARGE & LOCAL
Each colorway in the new Large & Local Collection of enhanced resilient tile is named after a local mountain gap or destination in close proximity to Mohawk Group’s North Georgia resilient production facility. The Georgia mountains are themselves tough and resilient, as is this collection, which makes it an excellent choice for high-traffic, hardworking healthcare settings. The collection features eight clean wood visuals with minimal graining and eight rustic visuals with coarse graining and a circle sawn texture, all reminiscent of European hand-oiled finishes.
Large & Local is manufactured domestically and features extra-wide and long planks measuring 9.25" x 59" in a selection of 16 styles. The commercial grade resilient tile is manufactured with a 4.5 mm thickness and features a 20 mil wear layer and M-Force™ ultra-enhanced urethane finish. Large & Local is FloorScore certified and can be specified in a variety of healthcare spaces including exam rooms, nurses’ stations, corridors, lobbies and waiting rooms as well as various applications within medical office buildings.
Mohawk Group’s mission is to serve those who heal, live and work in the healthcare built environment by creating innovative flooring across multiple categories, including enhanced resilient tile, sheet vinyl, rubber, carpet tile and broadloom carpet.
