Seven marketing agencies across the U.S. and in Romania will host CreateAthon® events in celebration of Pro Bono Week, October 20-26, 2019. CreateAthon is a 24-hour pro bono marathon during which marketing organizations develop strategic and creative marketing deliverables for nonprofits supporting a wide range of missions. Pro Bono Week is a global celebration of skills-based volunteerism and the impact it can have on the social sector.

As official CreateAthon partners, these seven organizations will offer pro bono marketing and communications services to dozens of nonprofits in the time surrounding Pro Bono Week:

Now in its 22nd year of service, CreateAthon has a total of 23 current partner organizations that host pro bono marketing marathons in their communities at different times throughout the year.

Riggs Partners, a marketing consultancy in Columbia, South Carolina, founded CreateAthon in 1998 as an innovative and scalable way to provide pro bono marketing services to nonprofit organizations. The program has achieved significant impact since its national expansion in 2002, attracting more than 100 agencies, universities, professional organizations and corporate marketing departments as CreateAthon partners. Cumulatively, CreateAthon has:

  • served 1,600+ nonprofit organizations in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom and Romania;

  • produced 3,800+ pro bono marketing projects;

  • delivered pro bono marketing and communications work valued at more than $25 million.

“Every year, I’m reminded why we participate in this chaotic, caffeine-filled, all-nighter. Then I see what happens when our collective creative talent is channeled toward the important causes that impact all of our lives,” said Teresa Coles, CreateAthon board chair and co-founder. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with nonprofit professionals who have dedicated their lives to creating positive societal impact by tackling these issues. It’s a privilege for us to help them move their work forward in the world.”

“We believe the best way to give back is to do what we do best, and CreateAthon allows us to do this in a way that’s productive, fun and meaningful,” said Jack Martin, president of J. Fitzgerald Group in Lockport, NY, and CreateAthon partner for 12 years. “The 24-hour marathon is a tremendous way to engage marketing employees in skills-based volunteerism, and the CreateAthon model is a process that has been honed and shared openly with marketing organizations for more than 20 years. We’re proud to be part of this service movement, and I’d encourage all marketing leaders to consider an event like this for their team.”
