Today, Covestro LLC donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross to help fund ongoing hurricane relief efforts in Texas. As part of its corporate giving program, i3 Give, Covestro’s donation will be used to assist the Red Cross in providing safe shelter and comfort to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

The hurricane’s devastation hits close to home for Covestro, whose largest North American manufacturing facility is located along the Gulf Coast in Baytown, Texas. There, the company manufactures high-tech polymers for use in a wide range of industries, such as automotive, construction and furniture. Covestro also has manufacturing operations in nearby Channelview.

Critical manufacturing operations at both facilities have been shut down due to storm conditions and the inability of plant personnel to report to work.

“The safety of our Texas employees is the top priority right now,” said Jerry MacCleary, president, Covestro LLC. “With this financial donation, we hope to provide additional support to them, their families and our neighbors in the community who have been affected by the storm.”

Covestro employees around the world are eager to join the company in helping their friends and colleagues in Texas. To unify support and maximize impact, Covestro is working with the Red Cross to set up a donation portal where individual employee contributions will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Covestro.

“I’m touched by the tremendous amount of support we’ve seen from our Covestro colleagues, who continue to share words of encouragement and express their personal desire to help,” said Rod Herrick, vice president and site manager, Covestro Industrial Park Baytown. “The storm has given us all some challenges to work through, but there’s comfort in knowing that Covestro takes care of its own.”

Covestro has been in contact with all of its Texas employees and their families, and the company is actively seeking ways to directly assist them in the hurricane relief and recovery efforts.
