PITTSBURGH, Mar. 28 /CSRwire/ - Rebecca Lucore, head of sustainability and corporate social responsibility at Covestro LLC and a leading voice in Corporate America for skills-based volunteerism, has nominated Pittsburgh to be the headquarters for the “Purpose Economy” in a new Huffington Post blog.

The Purpose Economy is defined by the quest for people to have more purpose in their lives, according to Aaron Hurst, best-selling author and founder of Taproot and Imperative. In her piece, Lucore argues that the “seeds of purpose were sown long ago [in Pittsburgh]. Think of Carnegie, Mellon, Frick. The Industrial Economy’s greatest figures gave back and enriched this country in ways that still reverberate today…. Now, Pittsburgh is at the forefront of the Purpose Economy with a new kind of corporate philanthropy that leverages people’s skills and expertise to advance the greater good.”

With skills-based volunteerism, individuals are empowered to be 21st century philanthropists.
