IMPACT 2030, the only private sector-led initiative with the United Nations and other stakeholders to unite companies in their corporate volunteering efforts to help advance the Sustainable Development Goals, has announced the appointment of Dr. Tauni Lanier as Executive Director.
Dr. Lanier, a recognized leader in the fields of sustainable finance and development, founded and has been Managing Partner of the EcoCapital partnership since 2007, focusing on climate change, impact investing, social justice and environmental asset project development. Earlier in her career, Dr. Lanier was the first Managing Director of the Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index and subsequently, Senior Project Manager for the Sustainable Development Reporting Project with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
“For most of my career, I have been a part of the private sector’s efforts to engage the global community in making the world better. IMPACT 2030 provides an opportunity to coalesce the sector’s most valuable asset - its people - around this unique moment in time where the world has a unified set of goals to achieve,” said Dr. Lanier. “I am keen to use my experience, knowledge and network to bear on a vision that will mobilize employee volunteers to impact the Sustainable Development Goals with such far- reaching possibilities”.
With a PhD in Environmental Economics from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, she looks forward to leveraging her work experiences from the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, France and the UK to bring the IMPACT 2030 global coalition together.
“As a Founding Partner of IMPACT 2030, at UPS we share the vision that people are the most important asset of a company and community. Through a collective impact approach to employee volunteering there is vast potential to scale the impact on the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Eduardo Martinez, President of the UPS Foundation and a member of the IMPACT 2030 Executive Committee. “We are excited about the perspective that Dr. Lanier will bring to the effort to align the private sector’s employee volunteer efforts with civil and social sectors to engage people in the global agenda.”
Dr. Lanier sits on the advisory boards of the CMCI - part of the UK Government initiative on climate finance - and Women in Social Finance. She also played a role as initial trustee of the Centre for Social Markets in India in 2000, was a member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Stakeholder Council (1999 - 2008), and chair and trustee for One World Trust (2007 - 2011).
“IMPACT 2030 is focused on bringing a broad range of voices, theories and experiences to the table so we can pioneer new strategies for how human capital investments will impact the development agenda,” said Grady Lee, Chair of the IMPACT 2030 Board and Executive Committee. “Dr. Lanier has the right mix of qualities that will elevate our mission and the global efforts of all us to change the world.”
